Julia Austin

Julia earned her J.D. from the Queen’s University Faculty of Law, where she graduated on the Dean’s Honour List and was a recipient of the Goodmans LLP Legal Skills Scholarship. Julia also holds a B.A. (Honours) with a major in Political Science from Queen’s University.
During law school, Julia tutored fellow law students, was a teaching assistant for undergraduate law courses, and worked with the Queen’s Legal Aid and Prison Law Clinics. At the Prison Law Clinic, Julia gained valuable litigation experience representing clients in disciplinary court and worked with the Clinic to bring a human rights complaint, which involved interviewing and communicating with clients and drafting materials for the Canadian Human Rights Commission.
Julia summered and articled with McCarthy Hansen & Company LLP prior to being called to the Ontario Bar in 2026 and returning to the firm as an Associate. At McCarthy Hansen & Company, Julia has gained experience with a variety of matters at all stages of the family law process, from negotiation, mediation, and trial to drafting personalized contracts governing clients’ family law arrangements.
